G Protein Coupled Receptor 135 (GPR135)

GPR135 is a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) . By database searching with conserved sequences of the rhodopsin family of GPRs as query, Fredriksson et al. (2003) identified EST and cDNA clones encoding several novel GPRs, including GPR135.The deduced 494-amino acid protein contains the characteristic 7 transmembrane (TM) domains, a DRY motif in the intracellular side of TM3, and an NSxxNPxxY motif in TM7. GPR135 shares 81% and 96% sequence identity with mouse and rat Gpr135 proteins, respectively. It also shares similarity with bioamine receptors. Analysis of EST sequences indicated expression of GPR135 in a variety of tissues including eye, brain, cervix, stomach, and testis.
