G Protein Coupled Receptor 27 (GPR27)

SREB1 shares 97% amino acid sequence identity with rat Sreb1 and mouse Gpr27, which is an ortholog of human SREB1, and 52% identity with human SREB2 and SREB3. Genomic sequence analysis revealed that the SREB1 gene has no introns. Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected a 3-kb SREB1 transcript at higher levels in brain, heart, ovary, testis, prostate, and peripheral leukocytes, and at lower levels in pancreas and small intestine; a 2.3-kb transcript was also found in peripheral leukocytes. Within the brain, SREB1 expression was found in all regions tested, with the highest levels in the caudate nucleus, putamen, hippocampus, and subthalamic nucleus, and the lowest level in the cerebellum.
