AarF Domain Containing Kinase 4 (ADCK4)

ADCK4 is a member of group i collagen (fibrillar forming collagen). The function of this protein is not yet clear. It is not known if it has protein kinase activity and what type of substrate it would phosphorylate (Ser, Thr or Tyr). There are 2 named isoforms produced by alternative splicing.The ADCK family comprises five paralogs in human (ADCK1-5). ADCK3 and ADCK4 are highly similar and appear to result from a gene duplication in vertebrates. In contrast, ADCK1, 2, and 5 have split from ADCK3 and 4 very early during evolution because all eukaryotes and several, but not all, gram-negative bacteria possess at least one representative of each subgroup. Yeast ABC1/Coq8 is the ortholog of ADCK3 and 4, whereas bacterial UbiB is more similar to the ADCK1–ADCK5 subgroup.
