Chondroitin Polymerizing Factor 2 (CHPF2)

The deduced 772-amino acid protein contains an N-terminal type II transmembrane domain, followed by a beta-3-GT domain that includes a DxD motif for divalent cation binding. It also has 3 putative N-glycosylation sites. CSGlcAT shares significant similarity with chondroitin sulfate synthase (CHSY1), but it does not have a beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase domain like that found in CHSY1. Real-time PCR detected ubiquitous expression of CSGlcAT. Highest expression was in placenta, followed by small intestine, and relatively low levels were detected in brain, kidney, heart, and skeletal muscle.CSGlcAT is involved in the synthesis of chondroitin sulfate, and they presented evidence that GlcA is transferred to the nonreducing terminal GalNAc with a beta-1,3 linkage.
