Hedgehog Acyltransferase Like Protein (HHATL)

HHATL contains 7 putative transmembrane domains. It was predicted to be an endoplasmic reticulum or plasma membrane protein. Northern blot analysis detected a major 1.95-kb transcript expressed at high levels in heart and skeletal muscle and more weakly in brain. A fainter transcript of 5.8 kb was also detected in these 3 tissues. Both transcripts were detected in all heart regions examined, but not in aorta. Fluorescence-tagged C3ORF3 was expressed in the cytoplasm of transfected mouse heart myocytes, showing predominantly a perinuclear distribution.highest expression in heart, followed by skeletal muscle, brain, spinal cord, spleen, testis, and ovary. Little to no expression was detected in lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and fetal liver. Intermediate expression was detected in all specific brain regions tested.
