Phosphodiesterase 3B, cGMP Inhibited (PDE3B)

Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs) are a superfamily of related enzymes involved in many regulatory pathways. The PDE3 family is characterized by high affinity for cAMP, inhibition by cGMP, sensitivity to specific inhibitors such as cilostamide and milrinone, and by phosphorylation and activation in response to insulin and agents that increase cAMP.This coding sequence predicts a protein of 1,112 amino acids with 81% amino acid identity with rat PDE3B. Northern blot analysis showed low levels of PDE3B expression in liver, spleen, lung, and kidney, and abundant 5.4- and 6.4-kb transcripts in adipose tissue from several locations. Lobbert et al. (1996) also isolated cDNAs of human PDE3B and reported similar findings.
