Polypeptide-N-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 13 (GALNT13)

The GALNT13 cDNA contains 2 MIR sequences within the 3-prime untranslated region. The deduced protein shares 86% identity with a bovine Galnt. RT-PCR ELISA detected GALNT13 expressed at intermediate levels in adult and fetal brain and in all specific adult brain regions examined. Little to no expression was detected in other tissues.GALNT13 contains 3 putative N-glycosylation sites and shares 84.3% identity with GALNT1. Real-time PCR detected abundant expression of GALNT13 in fetal brain, followed by adult cerebellum, cerebral cortex, and whole brain. Negligible expression was detected in other tissues. Semiquantitative RT-PCR of primary cultures of mouse neurons and astrocytes detected expression only in neurons.
