PPFIA3 is a member of the LAR protein-tyrosine phosphatase-interacting protein (liprin) family. Liprins interact with members of LAR family of transmembrane protein tyrosine phosphatases, which are known to be important for axon guidance and mammary gland development. Liprin family protein has been shown to localize phosphatase LAR to cell focal adhesions and may be involved in the molecular organization of presynaptic active zones.Since the first ATG was not within a Kozak consensus region, the KIAA0654 cDNA may lack some 5-prime sequences. The predicted 1,093-amino acid polypeptide shares 52% sequence identity with LIP1. The in vitro transcribed/translated product of the cDNA had a molecular mass of greater than 100 kD by SDS-PAGE. RT-PCR revealed that liprin-alpha-3 is expressed in several tissues.
