Trans Golgi Network Protein 1 (TGOLN1)

TGOLN1 widely expressed. may be involved in regulating membrane traffic to and from trans-Golgi network. The trans-Golgi network functions in the processing and sorting of glycoproteins and glycolipids at the interface of the biosynthetic and endosomal pathways. The generation and maintenance of apical and basolateral membranes rely on sorting events that occur in the TGN. The cisternae stack has four functional regions: the cis-Golgi network, medial-Golgi, endo-Golgi, and trans-Golgi network. Vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum fuse with the network and subsequently progress through the stack to the trans Golgi network, where they are packaged and sent to the required destination.  The trans-Golgi network is a highly dynamic series of interconnected tubules and vesicles at the trans face of the Golgi stack.
