Lymphoid Restricted Membrane Protein (LRMP)

JAW1 contain a hydrophobic membrane-spanning region, are both necessary and sufficient for targeting a heterologous protein to the ER.Behrens et al. (1994) performed a differential screen of a human B-lymphoma cDNA library to identify genes expressed preferentially in B-cell lines. The authors cloned and characterized a gene, which they called JAW1, that is expressed in a developmentally regulated manner in lymphoid cell lines and tissues. JAW1 encodes a 539-amino acid polypeptide with a predicted molecular mass of 59.6 kD. The authors localized JAW1 to the cytoplasmic face of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) by indirect immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy. The protein also has a coiled-coil domain and a C-terminal membrane anchor with a conserved luminal tail region.
