Polycystic Kidney Disease 1 Like Protein 1 (PKD1L1)

PKD1L1 encodes a member of the polycystin protein family containing 11 transmembrane domains, a receptor for egg jelly (REJ) domain, and a polycystin-1, lipoxygenase, alpha-toxin (PLAT) domain. The encoded protein may play a role in the male reproductive system. Alternative splice variants have been described but their biological nature has not been determined. The deduced 2,849-amino acid protein contains 11 putative transmembrane segments, 2 Ig-like PKD domains, a small REJ domain, a GPS domain, an LH2/PLAT domain, and a coiled-coil domain, all of which are found in polycystin-1 (PKD1). Two shorter, alternatively spliced PKD1L1 transcripts, designated PDK1L1a and PKD1L1b, contain 7 and 6 putative transmembrane domains, respectively.
