Dynein, Axonemal, Heavy Chain 14 (DNAH14)

Dynein is a motor protein (also called molecular motor or motor molecule) in cells which converts the chemical energy contained in ATP into the mechanical energy of movement. Dynein transports various cellular cargo by "walking" along cytoskeletal microtubules towards the minus-end of the microtubule, which is usually oriented towards the cell center.Two major classes of dyneins, axonemal and cytoplasmic, have been identified. DNAH14 is an axonemal dynein heavy chain (DHC) .Vaughan et al. (1996) isolated human partial cDNAs encoding DNAH14 (HL18) and several other DHCs. Sequence analysis revealed that DNAH14 is an axonemal DHC. By genomic sequence analysis, Pazour et al. (2006) mapped the DNAH14 gene to chromosome 1q42.12.
