Dynein, Axonemal, Heavy Chain 6 (DNAH6)

Dyneins are microtubule-associated motor protein complexes composed of several heavy, light, and intermediate chains. Two major classes of dyneins, axonemal and cytoplasmic, have been identified. DNAH6 is an axonemal dynein heavy chain (DHC) . Vaughan et al. (1996) isolated human partial cDNAs encoding DNAH6 (HL2) and several other dynein heavy chains (DHCs). See DNAH5. Sequence analysis revealed that DNAH6 is an axonemal DHC and is homologous to rat DLP6.Maiti et al. (2000) used human nasal epithelial cells after in vitro ciliogenesis to clone a cDNA fragment of the DNAH6 gene.Using fluorescence in situ hybridization and radiation hybrid analysis, Maiti et al. (2000) mapped the human DNAH6 gene to chromosome 2p12-p11. By genomic sequence analysis, Pazour et al. (2006) mapped the DNAH6 gene to chromosome 2p11.2.
