Fidgetin Like Protein 2 (FIGNL2)
Fidgetin is the first mutant AAA protein found in a mammalian developmental mutant, thus defining a new role for these proteins in embryonic development. The putative full-length translation of human FIGNL2, a protein of 653 amino acids on a single exon, comes directly from a human genomic BAC sequence from the Baylor Genome Sequencing Center. EST homologies in its 3""" UTR suggest that it is expressed more widely than FIGNL1, including lung, kidney, placenta and embryo. Although the similarity between FIGNL2 and Fign proteins is strongest in the N-terminal portion and breaks down in the AAA domain, FIGNL2 still qualifies as a AAA by the conserved motifs, Majority-rule consensus neighbour-joining tree of representative members of the SF7 AAA subfamily, showing clusters of closely-related sequences.
