HIAT1 is expressed at high level, 1.8 times the average gene in this release. The sequence of this gene is defined by 217 GenBank accessions from 192 cDNA clones, some from placenta, lung , uterus, kidney , stomach, brain , colon and 106 other tissues.The gene contains 14 different gt-ag introns. Transcription produces 7 different mRNAs, 4 alternatively spliced variants and 3 unspliced forms. There are 2 probable alternative promotors, 2 non overlapping alternative last exons and 5 validated alternative polyadenylation sites. The mRNAs appear to differ by truncation of the 5""" end, truncation of the 3""" end, presence or absence of 2 cassette exons. 599 bp of this gene are antisense to spliced gene SASS6, raising the possibility of regulated alternate expression.
