Myosin Binding Protein H (MYBPH)
Striated muscle in vertebrates contains a set of myosin-associated proteins with discrete distributions in the A band. One of these, located in the C region of the A band, is referred to as myosin-binding protein C ; it is the most abundant of the family and is found in a 1:8 molar ratio with myosin heavy chains. Two other members of the family are myosin-binding protein H and, the least abundant member of the group, myosin-binding protein X. Starting from the cloned chicken myosin-binding protein H, Vaughan et al. (1993) isolated and characterized the human homolog. The 1.8-kd cDNA encodes a 52-kD polypeptide containing 2 immunoglobulin-C2 type repeats and 2 fibronectin type III repeats. The mRNA is expressed in a pattern specific to skeletal muscle.
