Synaptonemal Complex Protein 2 Like Protein (SYCP2L)

SYCP2L, Belongs to the SYCP2 family. Expressed in the ovary (at protein level). Mouse SYCP2L is required for synaptonemal complex assembly and chromosomal synapsis during male meiosis. SYCP2L knockout mice exhibit sterility in male mice and subfertility with sharply reduced litter size in female mice.The synaptonemal complex is a proteinaceous structure that links homologous chromosomes during the prophase of meiosis. SYCP2 is a major component of the synaptonemal complex and may bind DNA at scaffold attachment regions. The protein requires synaptonemal complex protein 3, but not 1, for inclusion in the synaptonemal complex. Detected in nuclear granules and sizable aggregates.
