Syntaphilin (SNPH)

Synaptic vesicle docking and fusion at release sites requires the association of proteins on both vesicle and plasma membranes. Syntaxin-1 interacts with the synaptic vesicle-associated protein synaptobrevin/VAMP and the plasma membrane-associated protein SNAP25 to form the SNARE complex, which is the biochemical intermediate essential for vesicular transport and/or fusion processes. The formation of the SNARE complex comprises the minimal molecular requirement for membrane fusion in vitro.Syntaphilin contains the complete syntaphilin coding sequence. The deduced syntaphilin protein has 538 amino acids. In vitro transcribed/translated syntaphilin protein had an apparent molecular mass of approximately 72 kD by SDS-PAGE.
