Frizzled Homolog 3 (FZD3)

Frizzled-3 is a member of the frizzled gene family. Members of this family encode seven-transmembrane domain proteins that are receptors for the Wingless type MMTV integration site family of signaling proteins. Most frizzled receptors are coupled to the beta-catenin canonical signaling pathway. The function of this protein is unknown, although it may play a role in mammalian hair follicle development.Sequence analysis predicted that the 666-amino acid FZD3 protein, which is 98% identical to mouse Fzd3, contains an N-terminal CRD, 7 transmembrane domains, 2 cys residues in the second and third extracellular loops, and 3 N-linked glycosylation sites. The largest transcript predominated in fetal brain and adult cerebellum, and the 1.8-kb transcript predominated in adult pancreas and in many cancer cell lines.
