Hydrocephalus Inducing Protein (HYDIN)
The mouse Hydin protein contains 5,099 amino acids. In situ hybridization of embryonic day-15 mouse brain revealed Hydin expression in the developing choroid plexus. Expression in newborn brain was observed exclusively in ependymal cells, a specialized ciliated epithelium lining the lateral, third, and fourth ventricles. Hydin mRNA was also detected in bronchi of lung, spermatocytes within seminiferous tubules, and the oviduct lining extending out to the fimbriae.By genomic sequence analysis, they identified a duplicated copy of HYDIN, HYDIN2, on chromosome 1. Database and sequence analyses revealed HYDIN transcripts that had been isolated from lung, testis, NT2 neuronal precursor cells, and Jurkat leukemic T cells, whereas HYDIN2 transcripts had been isolated from brain and NT2 cells only.
