RAB9B, Member RAS Oncogene Family (RAB9B)

The RAB family of small G proteins regulates intercellular vesicle trafficking, including exocytosis, endocytosis, and recycling. Seki et al. (2000) identified a new member of the RAB gene family through a search of a public database, and isolated its full-length cDNA from a human fetal brain cDNA library. The deduced 201-amino acid protein, which the authors termed RAB9L, shares 86% similarity to human RAB9. Northern blot analysis revealed expression of a major 1.4-kb transcript in all tissues tested.Seki et al. (2000) determined that the RAB9L gene contains 3 exons and spans approximately 7.2 kb of genomic DNA.By radiation hybrid analysis, Seki et al. (2000) mapped the RAB9L gene to Xq22.1-q22.3.
