Armadillo Repeat Containing Protein 5 (ARMC5)
Armadillo repeats are named after the β-catenin-like Armadillo protein of the fruit fly Drosophila. These repeats are about 40 amino acids long and proteins that contain them have many tandemly repeated copies. Each Armadillo repeat is composed of a pair of alpha helices that form a hairpin structure.ARMC5 is expressed at high level, 1.6 times the average gene in this release.ARMC5 contains 7 different gt-ag introns. Transcription produces 7 alternatively spliced mRNAs. There are 3 probable alternative promotors and 2 validated alternative polyadenylation sites. The mRNAs appear to differ by truncation of the 5""" end, overlapping exons with different boundaries, alternative splicing or retention of 3 introns.
