Brain Specific Homeobox Protein (BSX)

By in silico database analysis, Cremona et al. (2004) identified a mouse homeobox gene, Bsx, that is a homolog of the Drosophila brain-specific homeobox Bsh. The deduced protein contains 232 amino acids. Cremona et al. (2004) also isolated the homeodomains of human and frog homologs. They found that mouse Bsx1 showed expression in the embryonic and postnatal brain that was restricted to the pineal gland, telencephalic septum, hypothalamic premammillary body, and arcuate nucleus.Bsx expression in adult mouse brain was restricted to hypothalamus, with prominent expression in arcuate nucleus and dorsomedial hypothalamus and scattered expression in lateral hypothalamus.
