Coiled Coil Domain Containing Protein 34 (CCDC34)

Using autologous antibody, Scanlan et al. (1999) cloned CCDC34, which they designated NY-REN-41, from a renal cell carcinoma cDNA library. RT-PCR detected expression in all normal tissues tested, including lung, testis, small intestine, breast, liver, and placenta.By genomic sequence analysis, Taylor et al. (2006) mapped the CCDC34 gene to chromosome 11p14.1.A coiled coil is a structural motif in proteins, in which 2-7 alpha-helices are coiled together like the strands of a rope. Many coiled coil type proteins are involved in important biological functions such as the regulation of gene expression e.g. transcription factors. Notable examples are the oncoproteins c-fos and jun, and the muscle protein tropomyosin.
