Defective In Cullin Neddylation 1, Domain Containing Protein 4 (DCUN1D4)

By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated adult brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1996) cloned DCUN1D4, which they designated KIAA0276. The deduced protein contains 309 amino acids.By searching databases for sequences similar to S. cerevisiae and C. elegans Dcn1, Kurz et al. (2005) identified mouse and human DCUN1D4. Like Dcn1, DCUN1D4 contains a DUF298 domain, but it lacks the UBA-like ubiquitin -binding domain of Dcn1.Ubiquitin, a small protein consisting of 76 amino acids, has been found in all eukaryotic cells studied. It is one of the most conserved proteins known; the amino acid sequence is identical from insects to humans, and there are only 3 substitutions within the plant and yeast sequences.
