Developmentally Regulated GTP Binding Protein 1 (DRG1)

Kumar et al. (1992) isolated Nedd3 and other mouse neural precursor cell cDNAs corresponding to mRNAs that are downregulated during mouse brain development. Sazuka et al. (1992) cloned additional cDNAs corresponding to the entire Nedd3 coding region, and renamed the gene DRG.The predicted protein contains structural motifs characteristic of GTP-binding proteins, and recombinant DRG protein bound GTP in vitro. By carrying out a yeast 2-hybrid screen with the SCL protein as bait, Zhao and Aplan (1998) isolated a fetal liver cDNA encoding the human homolog of DRG. The deduced 367-amino acid human and mouse DRG proteins are identical except at 1 amino acid position. The authors noted that this DRG protein is distinct from DRG2, which had previously been designated DRG.
