Doublecortin Domain Containing Protein 5 (DCDC5)
DCDC5 contains 2 DCX domains separated by a ricin-like domain. In contrast, the mouse protein lacks the more C-terminal DCX domain. In situ hybridization of embryonic mouse brain showed Dcdc5 in the septum, various cell groups of the ventral thalamus, and in the posterior hypothalamus. It was also detected in neurons at the base of the olfactory bulb, in the pretectal area, in the facial nucleus, in scattered neurons in the ventral and dorsal regions of the spinal cord, and in postmitotic inner neuroblastic layer of the developing retina. Western blot analysis of mouse brain detected Dcdc5 at an apparent molecular mass of 78 kD.RT-PCR ELISA detected low to moderate DCDC5 expression in adult brain, lung, liver, kidney, testis, ovary, and spinal cord, in fetal brain and liver, and in most specific adult brain regions examined.
