FERM Domain Containing Protein 5 (FRMD5)

Frmd5 protein was present in a punctuate pattern within the cytoplasm in Frmd5-overexpressed HeLa cells. The predicted molecular weight of Frmd5 protein is 64 kD.Western blot analysis showed that Frmd5 protein is expressed in retina, brain and heart of adult mice.By immunohistochemistry, Frmd5 proteins were detected in the retinal ganglion cell layer. Frmd5 proteins are up-regulated in the adult mice retina after optic nerve injury with immunostaining and digital image analysis. To explore the possible function of this novel protein, Frmd5 plasmid was transfected into PC12 and Neuro-2a cell lines with nerve growth factor and retinoid acid induction, respectively. The result indicated that over-expression of Frmd5 protein inhibits neurite outgrowth.
