Family With Sequence Similarity 110, Member B (FAM110B)

FAM110B contains a proline-rich region and several motifs conserved among FAM110 family members. FAM110B was predicted to localize to the nucleus, despite the absence of a distinct nuclear localization signal. Northern blot analysis detected transcripts of 2 and 3 kb that were primarily expressed in testis, spleen, and thyroid.Using immunofluorescence microscopy of transfected HEK293 cells, Hauge et al. (2007) showed that FAM110A, FAM110B, and FAM110C localized to centrosomes and accumulated at the spindle poles during mitosis. All 3 FAM110 proteins colocalized with CSPP1 at the microtubule-organizing center at interphase and at aberrant mitotic spindles, induced by CSPP1 expression, in mitosis. Expression of FAM110B and FAM110C also impaired cell cycle progression through G1.
