G Protein Gamma 11 (GNg11)

GNg11 is a member of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein) gamma family and encodes a lipid-anchored, cell membrane protein. As a member of the heterotrimeric G protein complex, this protein plays a role in this transmembrane signaling system. This protein is also subject to carboxyl-terminal processing. Decreased expression of this gene is associated with splenic marginal zone lymphomas. GNG11 encodes a 73-amino acid protein, the sequence of which is only 33 to 44% homologous to the sequence of most known gamma subunits but 76% homologous to that of gamma-1. By Northern blot analysis, GNG11 hybridized to 2 species of 1.0 and 1.2 kb in all tissues tested except brain. All other gamma subunits have been detected in brain with the exception of gamma-1 which is expressed only in retina.
