General Transcription Factor IIIC, Polypeptide 6 (GTF3C6)

GTFs assemble in a complex on the DNA promoter and recruit the RNA polymerase. GTF3C family proteins are essential for RNA polymerase III to make a number of small nuclear and cytoplasmic RNAs, including 5S RNA, tRNA, and adenovirus-associated (VA) RNA of both cellular and viral origin.By database searching with a 34-amino acid conserved sequence identified in S. cerevisiae and S. pombe transcription factor-7 proteins (Tcf7), Dumay-Odelot et al. (2007) identified a sixth human TFIIIC subunit, GTF3C6, which corresponded to a previously uncharacterized 213-amino acid human protein (C6ORF51). An epitope-tagged GTF3C6 recombinant localized to the nucleus of HeLa cells and copurified with other subunits of the TFIIIC complex, including GTF3C5 and GTF3C4.
