Kelch Domain Containing Protein 1 (KLHDC1)

Unlike KLHDC2, KLHDC1 was not able to bind to LZIP. Neither protein was able to bind actin.The 2 predicted proteins share approximately 50% sequence identity.Like KLHDC2, the deduced 406-amino acid KLHDC1 protein is composed almost entirely of 6 kelch repeats that form a beta-propeller structure. Northern blot analysis detected a 2.7-kb KLHDC1 transcript at high levels in skeletal muscle and at low levels in most other tissues tested; expression was absent in peripheral blood leukocytes. KLHDC1 was primarily localized to the cytoplasm. The KDHDC1/KLHDC2 cluster is highly conserved in vertebrates as evolutionarily distant as pufferfish.
