Late Cornified Envelope Protein 3A (LCE3A)

By database analysis to identify human orthologs of mouse genes encoding late envelope proteins (LEPs), Marshall et al. (2001) identified LCE3A, which they called LEP13.Using real-time PCR, Jackson et al. (2005) detected very low LCE3A expression in human fetal and adult skin. Low LCE3A expression was also detected in internal epithelia, including vulva and tongue, but not in esophagus.Jackson et al. (2005) determined that the LCE3A gene contains 2 exons. Exon 1 is noncoding.By genomic sequence analysis, Marshall et al. (2001) mapped the LCE3A gene within the LCE gene cluster on chromosome 1q21. Jackson et al. (2005) stated that the mouse Lce3a gene maps to a syntenic LCE gene cluster on chromosome 3F1.
