Limb Region 1 Homolog Like Protein (LMBR1L)

Using phage display to screen a pituitary gland cDNA expression library for proteins that interact with human lipocalin (LCN1), Wojnar et al. (2001) identified LMBR1L, which they designated LIMR. LIMBR1L encodes a deduced 487-amino acid protein with a predicted molecular mass of 55 kD and 9 putative transmembrane helices. Dot-blot analysis detected significant expression of LIMBR1L in testis, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, trachea, placenta, thymus, cerebellum, stomach, mammary gland, spinal cord, fetal kidney, and fetal lung, and weaker expression in colon, pancreas and prostate. Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence microscopy of human NT2 cells localized LMBR1L to the plasma membrane. Wojnar et al. (2001) also found that the N terminus of LMBR1L is oriented outside the plasma membrane.
