Multiple EGF Like Domains Protein 9 (MEGF9)

The domain that characterizes epidermal growth factor (EGF) consists of approximately 50 amino acids with 3 disulfide bonds. EGF-like domains are believed to play a critical role in a number of extracellular events, including cell adhesion and receptor-ligand interactions. Proteins with EGF-like domains often consist of more than 1,000 amino acids, have multiple copies of the EGF-like domain, and contain additional domains known to be involved in specific protein-protein interactions.The predicted partial EGFL5 protein has an EGF-like domain, 3 laminin-type EGF-like domains, and a transmembrane domain. Northern blot analysis of various regions of rat brain detected Megf9 expression predominantly in the cerebellum.
