NACHT And WD Repeat Domain Containing Protein 1 (NWD1)

NWD1 is a gene found in vertebrates, which encodes a protein that contains a NACHT domain and a WD40 repeat domain. It was originally identified during a search for immune system genes in zebrafish as a protein coding sequence related to APAF1; orthologs were subsequently identified in mammalian species. The NWD1 gene of humans is located on chromosome 19. The function of the NWD1 protein is currently unknown. The NACHT domain is an evolutionary conserved protein domain. This NTPase domain is found in apoptosis proteins as well as those involved in MHC transcription. The WD40 repeat is a short structural motif of approximately 40 amino acids , often terminating in a tryptophan-aspartic acid (W-D) dipeptide. Several of these repeats are combined to form a type of protein domain called the WD domain.
