NKAIN2 is a member of a family of mammalian proteins with similarity to Drosophila Nkain and interacts with the beta subunit of Na,K-ATPase (ATP1B1) . The deduced 188-amino acid protein contains 4 transmembrane helices. Northern blot analysis detected TCBA1 expression in fetal brain only. RT-PCR showed that TCBA1 was also expressed in adult brain and thymus, but not in any other normal tissue examined. RT-PCR of 53 lymphoma/leukemia cell lines detected a normal TCBA1 transcript in a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma cell line and 3 AML cell lines only. Aberrant TCBA1 transcripts were present in the 2 cell lines with chromosome 6q21 breakpoints.NKAIN2 contains a predicted cleavable signal peptide, 3 putative transmembrane domains, and shows no similarity to any known functional proteins.
