Phosphate Carrier Protein, Mitochondrial (PHC)

SLC25A3 catalyzes the transport of phosphate into the mitochondrial matrix, either by proton cotransport or in exchange for hydroxyl ions. The protein contains three related segments arranged in tandem which are related to those found in other characterized members of the mitochondrial carrier family. Both the N-terminal and C-terminal regions of this protein protrude toward the cytosol. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been isolated.The phosphorylation of ADP, which enters the matrix on adenine nucleotide translocase (ANT), is catalyzed by the ATP synthase complex. The ATP synthase enzyme of higher eukaryotic cells is a complex oligomer containing at least 13 different peptides in an asymmetric stoichiometry. These polypeptides include the alpha, beta (ATP5B), delta, and gamma (ATP5C1) subunits.
