Pleckstrin Homology Domain Containing Family G, Member 5 (PLEKHG5)

By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1998) cloned PLEKHG5, which they called KIAA0720. The 3-prime end of the transcript contains repetitive elements, and the protein contains 864 amino acids. RT-PCR ELISA detected highest expression of PLEKHG5 in ovary. Abundant expression was also detected in heart, brain, lung, kidney, and testis, and moderate expression was present in spleen, pancreas, skeletal muscle, and liver.Using transiently transfected HEK293 and MCF10A cell lines, Maystadt et al. (2007) found that PLEKHG5 activates the nuclear factor kappa-B (NFKB1) signaling pathway. Immunofluorescence analysis showed that PLEKHG5 protein is localized diffusely to cytoplasm.
