Poly/rC Binding Protein 3 (PCBP3)

PCBP3 encodes a member of the KH-domain protein subfamily. Proteins of this subfamily, also referred to as alpha-CPs, bind to RNA with a specificity for C-rich pyrimidine regions. Alpha-CPs play important roles in post-transcriptional activities and have different cellular distributions. This gene"""s protein is found in the cytoplasm, yet it lacks the nuclear localization signals found in other subfamily members. Multiple polyadenylation sites exist for this gene.Both mouse and human PCBP3 encode 339-amino acid proteins with calculated molecular masses of 36 kD. With the exception of 5 amino acid differences, the mouse and human proteins are identical. PCBP3 contains 2 KH (HNRNPK-homology) domains in the N-terminal half, and 1 near the C-terminus.
