Psoriasis Susceptibility 1 Candidate 2 (PSORS1C2)

Holm et al. (2003) reported that SPR1 encodes a deduced 134-amino acid protein that is rich in proline and contains an N-terminal signal sequence. Northern blot analysis detected high expression of an SPR1 transcript of about 2.3 kb in heart and skeletal muscle. Mouse and pig Spr1 are highly similar to human SPR1.Holm et al. (2003) determined that the SPR1 gene contains 2 coding exons and spans 1.8 kb.Holm et al. (2003) mapped the SPR1 gene to chromosome 6p21.3, where it overlaps the SEEK1 gene (613525) on the opposite strand. The 2 coding exons of SPR1 lie within introns 3 and 5 of SEEK1. Evidence for certain MHC genes has only recently been acquired, for example, the C6orf15 (STG),PSORS1C1 (SEEK1), and PSORS1C2 (SPR1) genes identified in a psoriasis susceptibility gene search.
