By searching a database for SLC22-like sequences, followed by PCR of a liver cDNA library, Eraly et al. (2004) cloned UST6. The deduced 547-amino acid protein has 12 transmembrane domains and shares highest similarity with UST3 (SLC22A9) and OAT5 (SLC22A10).RT-PCR detected UST6 expression in adult and fetal liver only.Eraly et al. (2004) determined that the UST6 gene contains 9 exons.By genomic sequence analysis, Eraly et al. (2004) mapped the UST6 gene to chromosome 11q12.3, between the OAT1 (SLC22A6)/OAT3 (SLC22A8) and OAT5/UST3 gene pairs.
