Solute Carrier Family 37, Member 1 (SLC37A1)

SLC37A1, a member of the sugar-phosphate transport family, transports glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) between cellular compartments for its utilization in several compartment-specific biochemical pathways.The deduced 533-amino acid SLC37A1 protein contains a mitochondrial cleavage site, N- and C-terminal endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention signals, and 12 putative transmembrane domains. It also has a conserved proline within the putative substrate-binding pocket that allows conformational mobility for substrate translocation. SLC37A1 shares a high degree of homology with sugar-phosphate transporters, particularly G3PPs, from various species, including 71% amino acid identity with mouse Slc37a2.
