Solute Carrier Organic Anion Transporter Family, Member 4C1 (SLCO4C1)

The deduced 724-amino acid protein has 12 transmembrane domains with intracellular N and C termini. It has 2 potential ATP-binding Walker A motifs in the cytosolic portion between transmembrane domains 6 and 7, 4 putative N-glycosylation sites in the extracellular loops, and 5 potential cytosolic phosphorylation sites. Northern blot analysis of several adult and fetal tissues detected highest expression of a 5.6-kb transcript in adult kidney, with lower expression in fetal liver and kidney. RT-PCR of microdissected rat nephron segments detected Slco4c1 expression in glomeruli, proximal convoluted tubule, proximal straight tubule, cortical thick ascending limb, and cortical collecting duct. Immunohistochemical analysis detected Slco4c1 expression at the basolateral membrane of rat proximal tubule cells.
