Specificity Protein 5 (SP5)

Suske et al. (2005) stated that both the human and mouse SP5 proteins contain 398 amino acids, and that both have a characteristic N-terminal buttonhead (BTD) box, CxCPxC, followed by a zinc finger domain.Suske et al. (2005) stated that the human SP5 gene maps to chromosome 2q31.1, and the mouse Sp5 gene to chromosome 2C3.SP5 belongs to a family of transcription factors that contain 3 classical zinc finger DNA-binding domains consisting of a zinc atom tetrahedrally coordinated by 2 cysteines and 2 histidines (C2H2 motif). These transcription factors bind to GC-rich sequences and related GT and CACCC boxes.
