Storkhead Box Protein 2 (STOX2)
Storkhead box-2 (STOX2) in decidual tissue from pregnancies complicated by pre-eclampsia and/or fetal growth restriction (FGR) to expression levels in decidual tissue from uncomplicated pregnancies. For STOX1, no differential gene expression was observed in any of the case groups, whereas STOX2 showed significantly lower expression in deciduas from pregnancies complicated by both pre-eclampsia and FGR as compared with controls. The STOX2 gene on chromosome 4q35 is located in close proximity to a chromosomal area (4q31-4q32) that has been implicated in pre-eclampsia in different populations as well. STOX2 is downregulated in pre-eclampsia samples, compatible with a loss-of-function, this would indicate that these two genes have similar functions but opposite effects in placental function.
