De Chaldee et al. (2006) cloned 2 capucin cDNAs from a mouse striatum cDNA library that differed in the presence or absence of exon 2 in the 5-prime UTR. Both variants encode a 237-amino acid protein with 2 C-terminal transmembrane domains. De Chaldee et al. (2006) also identified a partial sequence for human capucin. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR of mouse brain regions showed capucin primarily expressed in dorsal striatum (caudate and putamen), with lower levels in ventromedial striatum (nucleus accumbens) and ventral tegmental area. Fluorescence-tagged mouse capucin localized to the cis-Golgi of transfected cells.De Chaldee et al. (2006) determined that mouse capucin contains 5 exons and spans 21.6 kb. The first 2 exons are noncoding.
