Tigger Transposable Element Derived Protein 5 (TIGD5)
TIGD5 belongs to the tigger subfamily of the pogo superfamily of DNA-mediated transposons in humans. These proteins are related to DNA transposons found in fungi and nematodes, and more distantly to the Tc1 and mariner transposases. They are also very similar to the major mammalian centromere protein B.The protein were derived from genomic sequence to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on alignments. The coding region has been updated to extend the N-terminus to one that is more supported by the available transcript and conservation data. The exact function of this gene is not known.
