Zinc Finger, Matrin Type Protein 2 (ZMAT2)

ZMAT2, Contains 1 matrin-type zinc finger. ZMAT2 encodes a zinc finger protein. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. Zinc fingers are small protein structural motifs that can coordinate one or more zinc ions to help stabilize their folds. They can be classified into several different structural families and typically function as interaction modules that bind DNA, RNA, proteins, or small molecules. The name "zinc finger" was originally coined to describe the hypothesized structure of the repeated unit in Xenopus laevis transcription factor IIIA.
