Zinc Finger With KRAB And SCAN Domains Protein 2 (ZKSCAN2)

ZKSCAN2, Belongs to the krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. May be involved in transcriptional regulation. Different types of zinc fingers have been identified and characterized; the classical type is the C2H2 (kruppel) zinc finger motif, where the structure is stabilized by a zinc ion coordinated by four highly conserved residues, two cysteines and two histidines. Most of the C2H2 zinc finger proteins contain other conserved domains (KRAB, SCAN, and/or BTB) that contribute to the protein’s function. The presence of these modular domains can therefore be used as a means to classify members of the kruppel zinc finger gene The classical zinc finger proteins are those containing the C2H2 motif, which represents one of the most abundant DNA-binding motifs in eukaryotic transcription factors.
